YouTube has raised subscription prices for Premium in more than 10 countries, sparking outcry from users. Subscribers, who faced increases of up to 60 percent in some markets in Europe and Asia, reacted to the situation on social media.
YouTube Premium prices increased by 60 percent
Prices were raised in countries such as Switzerland, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Norway, Ireland, the Netherlands and Singapore. Especially in some countries, the fact that the prices were increased a few months ago further increased the reaction of users. Some users rebelled against the situation, saying that the individual subscription price was raised by 60 percent.
Google argues that the hike is necessary to support creators and improve the service. However, YouTube Premium has become much more expensive than rival platforms in some markets. One Danish user noted that the new price of Premium is more than Amazon Prime, Netflix and HBO subscriptions combined.
On the other hand, YouTube has started to offer its new ad format, which evaluates the moments when viewers pause while watching content, to a wider audience. This format, called ‘pause ads’, stands out as one of the latest innovations that change the platform’s advertising strategy.
As you know, YouTube has previously tried to balance the viewer experience with fewer but longer ads. In 2023, ads that could not be skipped were added to the platform. It is possible to get rid of ads with Premium.
